Darwin’s books in Finnish

In 2019, I bought 3 books in Finnish to add to Darwin Online.

The much abridged Voyage of the Beagle is only 66 pages. The cover is a dramatic painting of the Beagle being tossed about by huge waves and on page 1, an etching (?) of Darwin. It is a depiction of Rajon (1877) described in Darwin: A Companion (2021), p. 142.

1924. Matka maapallon ympäri. Translated by Alfred Jotuni. Helsinki: Kustannusosakeyhtiö Kirja.

The Origin of Species is 684 pages with marbled front and back cover, gilt spine with gold lettering of ‘Darwin, LAJIEN SYNTY, much faded.

1928. Lajien synty luonnollisen valinnan kautta eli Luonnon suosimien rotujen säilyminen taistelussa olemassaolosta. Translated by A. R. Koskimies. Hämeenlinna: Karisto.

The third book is an autobiography with the Richmond (1840) portrait on the dust jacket. On the inside dust jacket is a photograph of the translator  of the book (?) looking at the bust of Darwin.

1987. Elämäni. Translated by Anto Leikola. Oulu: Pohjoinen.

I cannot remember how much I paid for them but as I will be visiting Finland in April, I shall donate these books to the library there.
